Autel IM508S/IM608 II: VW 5C/5D Wireless vs. Wired Dealer Key FAQ

Understanding the nuances of Volkswagen 5C and 5D IMMO programming is essential for professional locksmiths using the Autel MaxiIM IM508S and IM608 II. This technical guide addresses common questions regarding the selection of "Wired" vs. "Wireless" methods during the dealer key generation process to ensure successful programming and vehicle compatibility.

Why Use the Wired Method for VW 5C/5D Dealer Keys?

Q: When generating a VW 5C or 5D dealer key, why do technical demonstrations use the "Wired" method instead of "Wireless"?

A: The method is determined by the specific hardware type of the key being programmed.

  • Wired Generation Requirement: If you are using a second-hand original factory key, it must be generated into a dealer key using the wiring method. This is a technical requirement for repurposed OEM chips to ensure data integrity.
  • Wireless Generation Support: The wireless method is only supported for two specific key categories:

1. Autel Universal Remotes or VW/Audi IKEY Remote.

2. Blank (New) original factory keys.

Note: 5D currently supports original key only.
