How to Register a BMW X5/X6 Battery with Autel MK808Z-BT?

Battery replacement is only half the job. Once the new battery is installed, register it with the Autel MaxiCOM MK808Z-BT before returning the vehicle to service. The following procedure was carried out on a BMW X5/X6.

Register the Battery Replacement

1. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
2. On the Autel MK808Z-BT, navigate to: IMMO → BMW → Automatic Selection → Read VIN → OK → Service → Body → Voltage Supply → Register Battery Exchange → Register the Battery Replacement → F2
3. Confirm the currently registered battery information. In this case, the vehicle shows 105Ah AGM, which matches the newly installed battery.
4. Press F1 to select Enter the battery exchange: Same capacity.
5. The scanner will perform the registration automatically.

When prompted whether the newly installed battery is an original component, select the appropriate answer. In this case, No was selected because the replacement battery was purchased from an aftermarket parts supplier.

Once complete, the scanner will confirm that:

• The battery replacement has been entered into the DME/DDE.
• The standby current histogram has been reset successfully.

Select Continue to proceed.

Set the Vehicle Date & Time

After battery registration, the scanner prompts to update the vehicle's date and time.

1. Press Continue.
2. Wait for the scanner to confirm that the date and time have been set successfully.
3. Press Continue again to finish the service function.

Clear Stored Fault Codes

After the registration is complete, return to the control modules and clear any fault codes.

A discharged or recently disconnected battery may trigger multiple warning lights and communication faults. Clearing the stored codes restores the system to normal once battery registration is complete.

Workshop Notes

The entire battery registration procedure takes about five minutes with the Autel MK808BT PRO. After clearing the temporary fault codes, the vehicle should start normally and the battery replacement will be properly recorded in the engine electronics.
