VW Audi SFD Security Gateway Access is Available on Autel Tablets

Autel has integrated Volkswagen, Audi Security Gateway Access on its tablets, such as Maxisys Ultra, MaxiCOM Ultra Lite, etc. Here we'll offer the capability starting with 2018 model year vehicles.

What's VW Audi SFD?

Volkswagen and Audi began installing their version of a security gateway called an SFD or Vehicle Diagnostic Protection to protect vehicle systems from unauthorized access and potentially unsafe modifications. Similar to systems incorporated by Stellantis like Chrysler, Jeep Ram and Nissan.

 

The VW Audi group's SFD prevents aftermarket scan tools from performing bidirectional controls, adaptations, calibrations, parameter adjustments, sensor relearns and resets from being performed.

Unlike Stellantis and Nissan whose security gateway can be accessed using Auto Auth, a third-party subscription-based aftermarket tablet authentication platform. The VW Audi SFD is accessed with token purchases through an integrated process within the Autel Maxisys interface.

 

Google two-factor authentication is used via your cell phone for an added layer of protection. Autel has provided its tablet users with this token-based access platform that enables them to buy tokens through the tablet and perform restricted tasks on VW and Audi vehicles with SFD such as this 2024 ID4.

 

The SFD is present on popular vehilce lines such as the Audi A3, Q4, Q5 Etron, Volkswagen Golf and Atlas, model years vary. Currently the system allows users to purchase access to the vehicle's SFD for $15 per VIN. For security purposes, session access will expire after 90 minutes. But there will be no additional charge if the user needs to restart the session with the vehicle to complete the service or repair.
