Fix Autel IM508S “Failed to Acquire Data” for Mercedes EIS Password

Issue & Fix: During a Mercedes-Benz EIS key cloning job with Autel MaxiIM IM508S, the device displayed the error message: “Failed to acquire data. Please try again!” at Step 4 and did not show the password write step. In this case, the issue was caused by using a replacement key instead of the original key. The fix is to enter Expert Mode and obtain the password through: Expert selection → Get password → Add key/All key lost.

The customer's key was not the original key but a replacement key, which caused an identification anomaly during the operation.

Diagnostic / Action Steps

  1. Enter Expert Mode on Autel IM508S.
  2. Select Get password.
  3. Choose Add key/All key lost to acquire the password.
